本片改编自尼古拉·果戈里(1809—1852)的早期作品、同名长篇历史小说《塔拉斯·布尔巴》。小说塑造了哥萨克英雄布尔巴的形象,歌颂了民族解放斗争和人民爱国主义精神。相同题材曾经由俄罗斯班底在1924年拍摄于德国。本次重拍，由苏联人民演员、乌克兰的鲍格丹·斯图普卡（Bogdan Stupka）扮演哥萨克老英雄塔拉斯·布尔巴，伊戈尔·彼得连科（Igor Petrenko）扮演老英雄的小儿子。。This film takes place in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Matic lives in a large neighbourhood of concrete blocks of flats with his mother. As his father is temporarily working in Libya, they live alone. Matic's otherwise monotonous life changes dramatically when he is chosen to feature in a film. At the shooting he meets Milena, a girl his own age whom he begins to like.
