Frank是个侏儒。故事从Frank写了本自传小说开始，穿插着倒叙他妈妈Bernadette一生的故事。 Bernadette是个法国诺曼底附近小村庄的美女，二次世界大战后为了远离父母惨死的故乡，混在美国军舰里偷渡到爱尔兰。生下不知父亲是谁的侏儒小孩Frank，Bernadette先是成了海关官员Jack的情妇，后来又和个美国人回到美国德州。Bernadette爱过的这两个男人都没有办法成为Frank永久的父亲，坚忍的Bernadette只好带着Frank又回到爱尔兰，在得知自己又怀孕的状况下，投海自杀身亡。因为出版了这本小说而成为作家的Frank，意外和Jack的大女儿重逢。多年后的相聚，让原本以为跟爱情无缘的两个人重拾信心。片子的最后便是两人的婚宴，Frank带着新娘子到天台，在经由Jack启发而爱上的天文星空下共舞以终。。Based on the Kenneth Roberts novel of the same name, this film tells the story of two friends who join Rogers' Rangers, as the legendary elite force engages the enemy during the French and Indian War.
