饭岛夫妻买了块儿地准备自己盖栋房子，于是拜托了妻子的学弟柳泽进行设计，妻子的父亲长一郎担任木工主任。柳泽是美国留学归来小有名气的室内装潢设计师，满脑子现代艺术观念，而长一郎是个一流的日式传统木工，在他眼里没有比和式住宅更美好的事物，建造工作就在两个人不断的摩擦中开始......。Speedy" loses his job as a soda-jerk, then spends the day with his girl at Coney Island. He then becomes a cab driver and delivers Babe Ruth to Yankee Stadium, where he stays to see the game. When the railroad tries to run the last horse-drawn trolley (operated by his girl's grandfather) out of business, "Speedy" organizes the neighborhood oldtimers to thwart their scheme.。
