石原明子（片平なぎさ）は亡き父の後を継いだ京都の葬儀社の社長だが、本業よりも探偵がお好き。葬式を頼まれた死亡者が人気女優でしかも毒殺、それに東京に住む明子の恋人の医師・黒沢春彦（国広富之）にも幾らかの疑いのあるところから、犯人探しに乗り出すことになる。 女優・井上和美（大塚良重）は京都郊外の別荘で外食中、青酸カリで死亡。翌朝訪ねてきた婚約者・西沢（金田賢一）と、和美のお手伝いの美紀（筒井由美子）に発見された。美紀は前日仕事先からの和美の電話で、二人分の食事を用意し、別荘を出て外泊していたし、西沢も立ち寄っていないという。男関係の派手な和美は、西沢との婚約以前に俳優・三田（谷嶋俊）とも熱い関係だったし、殺害当日はしつこく春彦を食事に誘っていた。また西沢には和美の前にモデルの葉子（高島礼子）という愛人がいた。それぞれに和美への愛憎のもつれた動機があった。...。John Ellman (Boris Karloff) has been framed for murder by a gang of racketeers.
